My concept is about familial legacy. Every family has their own “thing”, whether that be a special recipe, a holiday destination or an affinity for a certain family hobbies. Our family has Sunbeams; vintage sports cars of English descent, known for oil leaks, rust and Get Smart. The bond that has been formed within my family between grandparents, parents and children as a result of this legacy is of sacred nature. The aesthetic and mechanical nature of the car has aesthetic appeal. Their simplistic design and understated elegance provides memories of simpler times, particularly relevant in today’s complex society. I have documented my families collection of Sunbeam’s using Pop Art as a vessel and to represent the 1950s and 1960s time period in which the cars were manufactured.
